The Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences (NSPS) has announced the winners of its prestigious 2026 PhD Thesis Prize, recognizing five outstanding doctoral researchers for their exceptional contributions to the physical sciences.
The awardees are Dr Paul Adesina (Physics and Astronomy), Dr Timilehin Shaba (Mathematics and Statistics), Dr Temitayo Ale (Earth Sciences), Dr Bello Buhari (Computer Science), and Dr Temitope Ogunnupebi (Chemistry). These researchers were selected through a rigorous evaluation process for their originality, academic excellence, and significant contributions to knowledge.
Dr Adesina’s thesis, “Vibrational Dynamics of Driven Oscillators with Phase-Modulated Potential Structures,” demonstrated strong analytical depth and contributions to theoretical physics. Dr Shaba’s research on “New Derivation of q-Differential and q-Convolution Operators” showed mathematical rigor and contributions to complex analysis.
The other awardees’ research areas include environmental geosciences, cybersecurity, and medicinal chemistry. Each recipient will receive a cash award, certificate, and life membership of the NSPS, among other prizes, at the society’s annual conference on February 10.
NSPS Secretary, Dr Babatunde Falaiye, congratulated the awardees and reaffirmed the society’s commitment to fostering excellence in postgraduate research and advancing scientific knowledge for national development.
