Suspected ISWAP fighters abducted 13 teenage girls, aged 15-20, in Borno State’s Askira-Uba Local Government Area while they were harvesting crops in Mussa District. The victims had been relocated from Huyim community due to insecurity and were engaged in joint farming activities.
One girl managed to escape and reunite with her family, but 12 others remain in captivity with unknown whereabouts. Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume urged security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and residents to remain vigilant
The abduction has raised concerns about farmer safety in rural communities, particularly during harvest season. Local leaders warn repeated attacks may worsen food insecurity and threaten rehabilitation efforts for displaced persons .
