A Federal High Court in Abuja has removed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), citing a Supreme Court judgment from April 4, 2025. The court has declared former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, as the valid leader of the party ยน ยฒ ยณ.
The ruling, delivered by Judge Peter Lifu, orders the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Usman-led caretaker committee as the only valid authority to represent the Labour Party, pending the party’s national convention.
The Supreme Court had earlier ruled that Abure’s tenure as national chairman had expired, and the establishment of the caretaker committee was a necessity. Abure had contested the decision, claiming he was lawfully elected national chairman at a NEC meeting in 2021 and later at the party’s national convention in 2024.
