Ghanaian authorities have arrested 93 Nigerians for alleged cybercrime and human trafficking activities in Accra, rescuing 73 others reportedly subjected to torture and abuse. The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) revealed that 91 men and two women were arrested and charged with cybercrime and immigration violations [1].
The operation, led by Deputy Superintendent of Immigration Newman Akuffo, recovered items including 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones, and fake gold bars. Preliminary investigations showed some suspects entered Ghana through unauthorized routes or overstayed their visa-free entry.
The Comptroller-General of GIS warned that violators risk prosecution under Ghana’s Human Trafficking Act, with penalties ranging from five to 20 years imprisonment. The operation highlights Ghana’s efforts to combat cybercrime and human trafficking.
