The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, has commended journalists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for their contributions to national development and informing the public. Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council Congress in Abuja, Disu emphasized the importance of mutual respect and professionalism between police and media.
He urged for a stronger collaboration to enhance public trust and improve security communication, stressing that journalists deserve respect as professionals. “They are professionals who deserve respect and should never be treated as beggars,” he said.
Disu also called on police officers and journalists to conduct themselves responsibly, noting that good conduct leaves lasting impressions.
NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, welcomed the IGP’s comments and assured him of the council’s readiness to collaborate on security reporting. She invited Disu to the council’s 2026 Press Week celebration and reaffirmed the NUJ’s commitment to responsible journalism and strengthening security and governance in the territory.
