Terrorists attacked Woro and Nuku communities in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area, killing at least 162 people and abducting several others, including the wife and family members of the traditional ruler. The attackers, reportedly affiliated with the Islamic State, arrived on motorcycles and surrounded the communities before opening fire. Residents who attempted to flee were shot, while those who surrendered were tied up and killed
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly expression of frustration” by terrorist cells. President Bola Tinubu has approved the deployment of an army battalion to the area under “Operation Savannah Shield” to counter the terrorists
The Speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has called for intensified military action against the perpetrators and urged communities to cooperate with security agencies.
