Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami has provided details of his sources of income to justify the legitimate acquisition of 57 assets valued at N212.8 billion, currently under an interim forfeiture order by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a court filing, Mr Malami’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu, broke down his earnings to support the legitimacy of the assets’ acquisition. The listed income sources total approximately N14.96 billion, including salaries, business turnover, and traditional gifts.
The EFCC had secured an interim forfeiture order for the assets, alleging they were acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities. Mr Malami is contesting the order, arguing the assets were lawfully acquired and declared with the Code of Conduct Bureau.
The court is set to review Mr Malami’s application to lift the forfeiture order.
