The NGO Progressive Union, Abuja Branch, recently concluded its general elections, ushering in a new Executive Council (EXCO) for the organization. The elections, held on September 14, 2025, at the General Meeting, were overseen by a three-member Electoral Committee comprising Dr. Humphrey Kanayo Obikwelu (Chairman), Mr. Obi-Okoye Uche (Secretary), and Mr. Peter Okwy Katandu (Provost).
A total of 24 members were in attendance at the meeting. The elections were keenly contested, with several aspirants vying for the 10 positions on the EXCO.
The results of the elections are as follows:
Elected Officers:
- Chairman: Uche Chikezie (23 votes)
- Vice Chairman: Ekene Ike (18 votes)
- Secretary: Obi-Okoye Uche (17 votes)
- Assistant Secretary: Anita Uneweni (4 votes)
- Financial Secretary: Uche Ezeife (21 votes)
- Assistant Financial Secretary: Ezebube Ikenna (12 votes)
- Treasurer: Emeka Ezeaniekwe (15 votes)
- Publicity Secretary (P.R.O.): Arinze Umeweni (18 votes) and Chukwuka Aniemena (4 votes) – Both were elected as P.R.O. 1 and P.R.O. 2, respectively.
- Chief Provost: Nnamdi Umezeugo (12 votes)
- Assistant Provost: Obinna Okeke (11 votes)
- Protocol/Welfare Officer: Katandu Okwuchukwu (22 votes) and Okenu Chimezie (2 votes) – Both were elected as Welfare 1 and Welfare 2, respectively.
The newly elected EXCO members were declared by the Electoral Committee and are expected to take the reins of the organization, steering it towards greater heights.
The elections were conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, reflecting the organization’s commitment to democracy and good governance.
