The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have jointly intercepted a large consignment of Canadian Loud, a potent variation of cannabis, at the Apapa Port in Lagos. The seized drugs weigh 1,187 kilogrammes and were concealed in 55 bags hidden inside a container loaded with imported vehicles.
This latest seizure is part of a series of successful operations by the agencies, following the recent interception of 25.5kg of cocaine aboard a Brazilian-flagged vessel. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has intensified efforts to combat narcotics trafficking through Nigeria’s entry points.
The joint operation was carried out based on intelligence reports, and the seized drugs are valued at billions of naira. Other commands of the NCS, including the MMAC Command and the Tin Can Island Port Command, have also made significant seizures of hard drugs in recent times.
The frequent seizures have dealt a significant blow to international drug cartels and serve as a warning to those involved in the illicit trade.
