As the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco draws near, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has announced a 54-man provisional squad, showcasing Nigeria’s depth and ambition. The team features a mix of experienced players, returning talents, and exciting newcomers, all vying for a spot in the final 28-man squad.
The goalkeeping department is led by Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye, both of whom have enjoyed strong form at club level. They are joined by new challengers hoping to impress during camp. In defense, Captain William Troost-Ekong remains the leader, supported by Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Zaidu Sanusi, Ola Aina, and other dependable figures.
The midfield selection showcases Nigeria’s strength in depth, with a combination of creativity, ball-winning grit, and versatility. Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, and Raphael Onyedika headline the group, offering balance across defensive, box-to-box, and attacking roles.
The forward line is led by Victor Osimhen, alongside Ademola Look, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, and other dangerous forwards. Their blend of pace, flair, and finishing ability ensures that the Super Eagles will be one of the most feared attacking sides at AFCON.
The team is expected to play friendly matches in Egypt before heading to Morocco for the tournament, which kicks off on December 21. Nigeria is in Group C, alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
