Brighton, June 2026 – Nigerian winger Ibrahim Yohanna has signed a long-term contract with Brighton & Hove Albion that runs until 2031, completing a £21.5m move from Swedish side AIK.
The 18-year-old, who turns 19 this month, was visibly emotional as he put pen to paper. He was hugged and congratulated by his representatives after the deal was sealed. Albion beat competition from Newcastle and Chelsea to land the highly-rated teenager.
Speaking to Albion’s in-house media, Yohanna explained his reaction: “I’m really happy, that’s why, because I know where I came from. I want to make my family proud, which I did. They are really happy, so happy.”
After signing, technical director Mike Cave gave Yohanna a tour of Albion’s state-of-the-art training base in Lancing. Cave has been central to the club’s recruitment drive.
It’s not yet clear what role head coach Fabian Hurzeler has planned for Yohanna next season, though the club’s sizeable investment suggests big expectations.
The winger showed his qualities during one season in Sweden, cutting in from the right to fire left-footed shots — a style similar to Amario Cozier-Duberry. The English winger impressed on loan at Bolton last season and Albion are now pushing to tie him down to a new long-term deal too.
