With the Champions League final fast approaching, UEFA has confirmed the officiating team for the May 30 showdown in Budapest, and Arsenal fans have spotted a potentially encouraging detail.
German referee Daniel Siebert will take charge of the final against Paris Saint-Germain. Itโs the biggest assignment yet for the 42-year-old, who has been a Bundesliga referee since 2012 and handled matches at Euro 2020 and the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup final.
What stands out for Arsenal supporters is Siebertโs recent record with the club. The Gunners have won all four matches he has refereed, including two key 1-0 victories in this seasonโs knockout stage against Sporting Lisbon and Atlรฉtico Madrid in the semi-final second leg.
None of those games featured major refereeing controversies, but the 100% win rate makes for good reading in north London.
PSG also have a strong record under Siebert, with wins over Club Brugge, Maccabi Haifa and Girona last season. The French side were held to a 0-0 draw by Athletic Club under his watch earlier this campaign.
Siebertโs style could also suit Arsenalโs likely game plan. Across 32 matches this season, he has averaged just over four yellow cards per game and issues a red roughly every 1,485 minutes, suggesting he allows play to flow without frequent interruptions.
The full officiating team includes assistants Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn, fourth official Sandro Schรคrer, VAR Bastian Dankert, and assistants Robert Schrรถder and Carlos del Cerro Grande.
Off the pitch, The Killers have been confirmed as the pre-match entertainment, giving Gooners something to sing along to before kickoff.
