Fresh realignments are taking shape in the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress as former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, has withdrawn from the Kano North Senatorial race and endorsed Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin for re-election in 2027.
The announcement followed a meeting of APC stakeholders from Kano North on Tuesday night, convened to strengthen party unity ahead of the next election cycle.
Those said to be present included former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano APC Chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa, Kano Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to sources, the discussions centered on party cohesion, consensus building, and avoiding internal rivalry ahead of 2027.
After the consultations, Gwarzo said he was stepping down in the interest of party unity and political stability.
โIn deference to His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Executive Governor of Kano State, and following extensive consultations with all concerned, I have reached the decision to step down my senatorial aspiration,โ he stated.
Gwarzo added that the decision was aimed at strengthening the APC and minimizing divisions before the polls. He thanked his supporters, political associates, youth and women groups, religious leaders, and his media team for their backing during the process.
The former minister also acknowledged the support of Vice President Kashim Shettima, Ganduje, Bichi Federal Constituency lawmaker Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, and Baffa Babba Danagundi.
Political observers say the endorsement could bolster Barauโs standing in Kano North as the APC continues negotiations and consensus arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
