PDP Wike Faction Expels Governors, Top Officials in Power Struggle
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has expelled Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, citing anti-party activities and disobedience to court orders. The expelled officials also include the party’s new National Chairman, Sen. Tanimu Turaki, Board of Trustees Chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja
The expulsion was announced after a controversial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, which was marked by clashes between rival factions. The meeting, which was attended by Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike’s supporters, also dissolved the State Executive Councils of Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti .
The NEC has directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to constitute caretaker committees and begin fresh congresses in the affected states. The party has also initiated a nationwide membership audit and revalidation ahead of the 2027 elections .
The expulsion comes after a weekend convention in Ibadan, which saw Wike and his allies being expelled from the party. The PDP is currently facing internal conflicts, with rival factions vying for control .
