Nigeria’s Flying Eagles were beaten 4-1 by Burkina Faso in the final of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship on Saturday at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, ending their hopes of qualifying for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The defending champions struggled badly in the first half as the Young Stallions raced into a commanding lead.

Burkina Faso started on the front foot and dominated the opening 45 minutes. Three early goals put them 3-0 up at half-time, with Nigeria’s defence exposed by pace and direct attacks.

The Flying Eagles came out stronger after the break and got a lifeline when forward Muiz Adeleke converted a penalty to make it 3-1. That goal briefly gave Abdu Maikaba’s side hope as they pushed higher and created a few chances.

But Burkina Faso’s organized shape held firm, and they put the game to bed with a fourth goal late on to seal a 4-1 victory.

It was the second time Burkina Faso defeated Nigeria in the tournament, having also won their group-stage encounter.

With the win, the Young Stallions claimed the regional title and will represent WAFU Zone B at next year’s U-20 AFCON alongside hosts Ghana.
