The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) celebrated Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal for Al Nassr in the Asian Champions League Elite on Monday, just two days after suspending the forward from national team duty.
In a post on social media, the federation shared a photo of Ronaldo in the Portugal shirt with the caption: “Ronaldo scores again for Al Nassr.”
The 41-year-old started for Al Nassr against Neftchi Fergana and netted the 981st goal of his career in a 3-1 victory for the Saudi side.
Reacting after the game, the veteran wrote on Instagram: “Important win tonight. We keep building.”
Monday’s match was Ronaldo’s second appearance for Al Nassr since his controversial departure from the national team camp during the last international window. The forward reportedly left the squad after a disagreement with newly appointed coach Jorge Jesus over limited playing time in the Nations League.
He subsequently apologised to his teammates and issued a statement saying he would accept any sanction imposed by the FPF, while reaffirming his desire to continue representing Portugal.
The federation is yet to announce a final decision on his punishment, with details of the disciplinary process expected to remain confidential until investigations are concluded.
