As Muslims across the world commemorate this yearโs Eid-el-Maulud, the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Thursday called on the Muslim faithful in the state to reflect deeply on the timeless virtues and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
Eid-ul-Mulud, celebrated in the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabiโ al-Awwal), marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The occasion is observed with prayers, sermons, processions, and charitable deeds.
In Nigeria, it is recognised as a national public holiday, highlighting both the countryโs significant Muslim population and its strong tradition of honouring major Islamic festivals.
The day also provides an opportunity for religious leaders and government officials to emphasise the need for peace and unity, especially as the nation continues to face security and economic challenges.
In a goodwill message signed by Director-General Press Affairs Gombe Government House Ismaila Misilli, to commemorate the occasion, Yahaya emphasised the importance of embodying the noble values of tolerance, humility, modesty and generosity, all of which were exemplified by the life of the Prophet.
He urged Muslims to draw inspiration from the Prophetโs teachings of service to humanity, peaceful co-existence, and exemplary leadership, stressing that such values remain relevant in building a just and harmonious society.
Yahaya also used the occasion to call for continued prayers for the peace, well-being, and prosperity of Gombe State and the country at large.

The Niger State government has banned any form of religious preaching in the state and ordered anyone who wants to preach to obtain a licence.
The Director General of the Niger State Religious Affairs, Umar Farooq, confirmed the ban in a telephone chat on Thursday and said any preacher who wants to preach must obtain a licence.
He disclosed that preachers have between today and the next two months to obtain their licences.
โIt is true, the State Government has banned preaching. Any preacher who wants to preach must secure a licence between now and the next two months
โAll they need to do is to visit our office, get, and fill out the form. After which, they will have to face a panel that will screen them before they can start preaching,โ Farooq said.
The Chief Imam of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Bashir Yankuzo, who reacted to the ban, said the government cannot stop preaching.
โMy opinion is that preaching is a command. The government is not paying anyone for doing the job; people are preaching in order to earn the pleasure of God. So, the government cannot dictate who to preach to and who not to preach.
