Abuja, June 22 2026 – The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of online publisher and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre over alleged cybercrime charges.

Justice Mohammed Umar gave the order on Monday. He directed that Sowore be held in custody pending the hearing of his motion for a stay of execution. The motion challenges the court’s earlier order revoking his bail and issuing a bench warrant for his arrest.

The judge also dismissed Sowore’s application seeking his recusal from the case, which was based on claims of bias.

Justice Umar adjourned the matter to June 24 for arguments on the stay-of-execution application filed by Sowore’s new counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN.

How it started
The court had on June 16 revoked the bail previously granted to Sowore after he failed to appear for trial. Acting on an oral application by Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), Justice Umar issued a bench warrant for Sowore’s arrest and ordered his bail revoked.

The court will now hear arguments on the application seeking to suspend that order when proceedings resume on June 24.
