Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit says Victor Osimhen could give the Gunners a major boost in attack if the club decides to sign the Nigerian striker.
Speaking in an interview with a British journalist from Oddschecker and WhoScored, as reported by PUNCH Online on Friday, Petit weighed in on Arsenalโs striker options and named Osimhen as an alternative to Juliรกn Alvarez. The Napoli forward is reportedly valued at around ยฃ100m.
Petit noted that Osimhen and Alvarez are not the same type of player, but the Super Eagles star would offer something Arsenal currently lack up front.
โNext one for Arsenal then is Victor Osimhen at ยฃ100 million,โ Petit said.
โThey are different players. Not the same quality as Alvarez, but he will bring a powerful presence up front.โ
The 1998 World Cup winner also pointed to Osimhenโs speed, work rate and mentality as key assets.
โHeโs fast, heโs a fighter, heโs got a bad temper as well, a strong personality,โ Petit added.
While backing Osimhen, Petit said both he and Alvarez would be strong additions for Mikel Artetaโs side.
โSo, he will bring something different from Alvarez, but itโs two different options. Both of them are good,โ he said.
Osimhen has established himself as one of Europeโs top forwards, known for his pace, strength and ability to run in behind defences. A switch to the Premier League with Arsenal would give him another platform to compete at the highest level, and his direct, physical style could add a new dimension to Arsenalโs attack.
