Super Eagles and U23 head coach Eric Chelle has named his backroom team as preparations begin for Nigeriaโs campaign to return to the Olympic Games, http://OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Chelleโs U23 squad will soon enter camp ahead of the qualifiers for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations later this year. The goal is to end Nigeriaโs absence from the Olympics after missing the last two editions.
In a statement released by the National Sports Commission, Chelle confirmed the appointment of Bright Osehai Ozebagbe and Deniran Ortega as assistant coaches for the Olympic team.
The Malian tactician described both coaches as some of Nigeriaโs most promising young tacticians with strong track records, adding that he is excited to work with them on the project.
โWe have bright young coaches in Nigeria with very impressive profiles and I am very happy to work with Ortega and Bright on the Olympic team,โ Chelle said.
The report added that Chelle will also unveil a foreign scout and a foreign assistant coach in the coming days. He noted that bringing in international expertise will be key not just for the U23s, but also for the long-term plans of the senior national team.
Nigeria last featured in menโs Olympic football at Rio 2016, where the U23s won bronze.
