The Anambra State Police Command has announced the assumption of office of CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, as the new Commissioner of Police in the state, effective Sunday, 10th August 2026.
CP Ama takes over from AIG Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, who recently retired from the Nigeria Police Force after his promotion to Assistant Inspector-General.
A seasoned officer with over 30 years of service, CP Ama previously served as Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and Training at the Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja. He also served as Deputy Commissioner in the same department.
Hailing from Ekata in Edda LGA of Ebonyi State, the new CP holds a http://B.Sc. (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Jos. He began his career as a Cadet Superintendent at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
His policing career cuts across intelligence, investigations, tactical operations, administration, and public relations. Key postings include:

- Commanding Officer, No. 44 PMF, Force Headquarters Abuja
- Area Commander, Nnewi, Anambra State
- Assistant Commissioner, Homicide, FCID and Zonal CID, Zone 9 Umuahia

- Coordinator of Courses, Police Detective College, Enugu

- PPRO, Rivers State Police Command
CP Ama has attended several local and international courses including the Policy, Strategy and Leadership Course at NIPSS Kuru, Joint Operational Planning with the British Military Advisory Team, Incident Site Commanderโs Course by the UK College of Policing, and Advanced Detective and Combat Operations training.
He has also received commendations for gallantry, including an award for bravery after recovering an AK-47 rifle during a shootout with armed robbers in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State in 2007.
He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Nigeria Psychological Association, and Nigeria Institute of Police Studies.
On resumption, CP Nnanna Oji Ama pledged to build on existing security successes in Anambra State. He promised stronger collaboration with other security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women and stakeholders.
