Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested a woman accused of pouring hot water on her neighbour following a quarrel over shared space in Lugbe, Abuja.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident happened on September 4, 2026.
The victim, Gift Amos, reported the case at the Lugbe Police Division on September 6 at around 3:30 p.m. She alleged that she and the suspect, Mrs. Beauty Monday, got into an argument.
Preliminary findings showed that the disagreement started after Amos moved Mondayโs pot of boiling water from a stove to a part of the compound assigned to her. The statement said Monday became upset, picked up the pot from that area, and poured the boiling water on Amosโ back.
Amos sustained severe burns and other serious injuries from the attack. She is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Police said Monday has been arraigned and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre. The court adjourned the matter to September 16, 2026 for further hearing.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, called on residents to settle differences peacefully and avoid violence.
He advised the public to use lawful channels rather than taking matters into their own hands, and urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Commandโs emergency lines.
