New York – Forbes has released its monthly ranking of the world’s richest people for September 2026, with Elon Musk holding onto the No. 1 position for the second month running.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO first crossed into trillionaire territory on June 12, after SpaceX debuted with a market valuation near $2.2 trillion. Despite a dip in July that saw his net worth fall below $700 billion for the first time since December 2025 due to declines in Tesla and SpaceX shares, Musk’s wealth rebounded in August.
He currently owns a 38% stake in SpaceX, which is now valued at close to $2 trillion, up from $1.5 trillion last month. That push lifted his total fortune to $892 billion in September.
Musk originally became the world’s richest person in September 2021. He extended his lead in May 2024 and has since hit several milestones — passing $500 billion in October 2025, then $600 billion and $700 billion two months later, and $800 billion by February 2026.
