Operatives of the Anambra State Police Commandโs Rapid Response Squad/VCRU have arrested two men suspected of manufacturing and distributing fake alcoholic drinks in the state.
The suspects, Ikechukwu Okeke, 42, and Okeke Chukwuemeka, 38, were picked up in the early hours of Monday, June 15, 2026, following actionable intelligence.
Police said preliminary findings show the duo belong to a syndicate that specializes in adulterating and counterfeiting popular liquor brands. During questioning, both reportedly confessed and led officers to their mini-factory.
At the site, operatives recovered several cartons of suspected fake Seamanโs Schnapps, McDowellโs, Eagle Schnapps, Elliot Hot Drinks, and Baileys Fresh Cream. Also seized were dangerous chemicals, empty bottles, labels, and other packaging materials used for the illegal production.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, praised the team for the operation. He warned that anyone involved in producing or selling counterfeit consumables will face the full weight of the law.
The suspects remain in custody while the exhibits undergo forensic analysis. Investigation is ongoing to track other members of the syndicate and determine how far their distribution network reaches.
