AWKA — The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned Mr. Ejike Ofoegbu, said to be the owner and publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and iNews, before a court of competent jurisdiction over alleged publication of false and defamatory reports about the family of the Anambra State Governor.
The arraignment on Sunday, July 13, 2026 followed the transfer of the suspect to the Command by the Department of State Services, Awka, and the completion of police investigations into a petition. The petition alleged the dissemination of fabricated information capable of damaging reputations and causing public disaffection.
Following the court proceedings, the suspect was ordered to be remanded in a correctional facility in the state.
The Command said it will not make further comments on the matter to avoid prejudicing ongoing legal proceedings.
It also urged members of the public, journalists and publishers to verify information before publishing and to uphold the ethics of responsible journalism and relevant laws guiding information dissemination.
