The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another major success in its fight against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in the state.
In the early hours of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acted on credible intelligence about the presence of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers along Eziowelle Road.
According to the Command, the team moved in immediately. On sighting the police, the suspects opened fire, triggering a gun battle.
During the exchange, two members of the gang sustained gunshot injuries and died, while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds.
Weapons recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with four live rounds, one pump-action gun, and five live cartridges.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, said the Command remains committed to intelligence-driven and proactive policing to break up criminal networks and protect residents across Anambra.
He added that investigations are ongoing and efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects. The Command promised to update the public as new developments emerge.
