ZURICH — FIFA has confirmed Argentina will take the field in their navy blue jerseys for Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final against England.
The reigning champions made a “special request” to wear the alternate strip, with FIFA granting approval in an official Match Colour Designation release on Monday.
Argentina, who typically play in their iconic white and light blue stripes, are turning to the navy kit for what they hope will be a psychological boost. The colour is famously linked to Diego Maradona and was also worn when Argentina knocked England out of the 1998 World Cup.
For the semi-final, Lionel Messi and his teammates will pair the navy shirts with white shorts and red socks.
England will play in their traditional all-white kit.
