Arsenal have broken their usual silence on transfers, confirming via the clubโs official website that further signings are on the way before the summer window closes.
Itโs been a slow start for the Gunners in the market. So far only two players have come in: Greek winger Christos Tzolis, seen as cover for Leandro Trossard, and back-up keeper Ilan Meslier.
Other targets have slipped away. Chelsea won the race for Aston Villaโs Morgan Rogers, while a move for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes has hit a snag. Links to Real Madridโs Vinicius Junior continue to swirl, and Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is reportedly favoring a switch to Barcelona instead.
In a preview for next Saturdayโs friendly against Girona, Arsenalโs site noted: โTwo new players have joined the group in pre-season, goalkeeper Ilan Meslier and forward Christos Tzolis, and more are expected to sign before the end of the transfer window.โ โ as reported by the Metro.
Manager Mikel Arteta also addressed the situation in an interview with http://Arsenal.com:
โThereโs a lot happening. We all understand the nature of this window.โ
He said the clubโs hierarchy are aligned on the goal:
โFrom the owners to the board, the sporting director and myself, we want to take this club to another level.โ
โThat means improving the squad and bringing in better players,โ Arteta explained. โWe know where we need to strengthen, where we can grow, and whatโs required to evolve our style and hit our targets.โ
The Spaniard ended with a pledge: โWe expect to start making things happen in a very concrete way very soon.โ
