Tehran, June 9 2026 – Iran’s Foreign Ministry says overnight exchanges of fire between Iran and Israel will only make the already “chaotic diplomatic process” with the United States worse.
Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told reporters on Monday that Tehran and Washington are currently exchanging messages in an atmosphere of “extreme suspicion.”
Baghaei accused Israel of carrying out actions in Lebanon aimed at sabotaging diplomacy, whether done with U.S. knowledge and consent or not. He said the U.S., as a party to the April 8 ceasefire, bears “direct responsibility” for any violations, including attacks blamed on Israel.
“The United States bears direct responsibility for any action the Zionist regime takes in violating regional peace and security against Iran,” he stated.
He warned that the world should be concerned about a broader regional conflict escalating from the current tensions.
Baghaei also said Pakistan’s interior minister visited Tehran on Sunday as part of ongoing indirect exchanges with Washington.
On the nuclear front, he added that Iran will respond to any resolution against it at this week’s meeting of the UN nuclear watchdog’s Board of Governors. He accused IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi of ignoring conflict realities and holding biased political views that damage the agency’s credibility.
