The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has called for a regional, intelligence-driven strategy to address the growing security challenges in the North-West.

The summit, organized by the Zamfara State Government, gathered governors, traditional rulers, security heads, experts, development partners, civil society actors, and other stakeholders to discuss issues such as banditry, kidnapping, illegal arms, communal violence, and farmer-herder clashes.
According to the IGP, no single security agency or government can tackle insecurity in the region in isolation. He advocated for better intelligence sharing, stronger collaboration between states, joint operations, improved border control, active community participation, and robust early-warning systems.
He also emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions and local communities in providing reliable information and supporting crime prevention efforts.
Disu warned against profiling based on ethnicity or religion, stating that crime has no tribe and terrorism has no faith. He urged participants to focus on tracking and prosecuting criminal networks, their financiers, arms dealers, informants, and collaborators, regardless of their background.
The IGP reiterated the Nigeria Police Forceโs commitment to intelligence-led policing, use of technology, quick response, inter-agency cooperation, and working closely with communities.
He charged delegates to ensure the 3-day summit produces concrete and measurable outcomes that will enhance security, protect vulnerable citizens, and restore public confidence across the North-West.
