ABUJA โ The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says nine registered political parties have obtained access codes to upload the details of their candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Malam Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Tuesday in Abuja.
โAs of close of work on Monday, nine political parties had collected the access codes for the national elections,โ he said.
According to Haruna, the parties are: Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He explained that it is the responsibility of participating political parties to approach the commission to collect the codes, rather than INEC delivering them to party secretariats.
Haruna added that any representative collecting a code on behalf of a party must present an authorization letter from the partyโs leadership.
He also noted that INEC has issued guidelines for candidate nominations and has trained party officials on the process. He urged political parties to comply strictly with the rules.
The commissioner further cautioned parties against waiting until the last minute to complete and submit their nomination forms online.
โINEC has been generous by extending the deadline from close of work to midnight on the deadline date. If any political party chooses to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be held responsible,โ Haruna said.
NAN reports that INEC has set June 27 to July 11 for parties to submit nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates through its dedicated candidate nomination portal.
According to INECโs timetable for the 2027 general elections, the submission window for governorship and State Assembly nomination forms is scheduled from July 18 to August 8.
