The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has expressed readiness to partner with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists to advance national security, protect media practitioners, and increase women’s involvement in peacebuilding efforts.

FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, made the commitment on Monday while hosting the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, and other members of the association at the Corps’ Command Headquarters in Abuja.

The NAWOJ delegation formally presented an invitation for the NSCDC to collaborate on the inaugural Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit and Awards 2026, slated for Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Welcoming the team, Odumosu described the summit as a timely platform to deepen cooperation between security agencies and the media. He assured NAWOJ of the Corps’ full participation despite the short notice.

“We will do everything possible to be part of this summit. NSCDC will continue to support NAWOJ anytime. I look forward to engagements that will help us grow as individuals, institutions and as a nation,” he stated.

The Commandant added that the event would help close existing gaps between the media and security institutions. He emphasized that credible journalism is vital to building public trust, fighting fake news and strengthening national security.

Odumosu, who also serves as UNESCO National Focal Person on the Safety of Journalists, further pledged to work with NAWOJ and other media stakeholders to enhance the protection of journalists nationwide, with special focus on women in the profession.

He proposed extending the partnership beyond the summit to include training programs, advocacy, awareness campaigns, reporting channels, and regular engagements with NAWOJ chapters across states to improve media-security relations.

Earlier, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim applauded the NSCDC for its role in securing critical infrastructure and combating crimes such as vandalism, illegal mining and oil theft.

She explained that WINSEC 2026 is designed as a national platform to bring together security chiefs, policymakers, diplomats, traditional rulers, CSOs, women leaders, young professionals and journalists to chart practical strategies for inclusive security and strategic communication in Nigeria.

Aisha urged the NSCDC to participate with senior officers as delegates and resource persons, noting that the collaboration would boost responsible reporting, public confidence and overall peace.

Both parties agreed to sustain the partnership after the summit, with a joint commitment to journalist safety, stronger media-security collaboration, and advancing women’s roles in peace and development.
