Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 49-year-old man suspected of armed robbery in Nkpor, Idemili North LGA.
The suspect, identified as Chima Ogumba, was picked up on the morning of August 17, 2026, by officers of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.
According to the Command, the arrest followed a raid on a location along Nkpor Road. During a search, police recovered one pump-action gun and 50 rounds of live cartridges from him.
The suspect could not provide a credible explanation for being in possession of the firearm and ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has ordered a full investigation into the matter. Police said the probe will determine if the suspect has links to other armed robbery cases and other crimes, and also trace the source and intended use of the recovered weapons.
