ABUJA — The Police Service Commission has debunked a recruitment circular making the rounds on social media, describing it as fake and urging job seekers to rely only on official updates from the commission.

In a statement released on Friday by its Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, the PSC said the fraudulent notice wrongly claimed that successful Nigeria Police Force applicants would be posted strictly to their states of origin under a so-called “State Police Act 2026.”

The fake publication also listed July 16 to July 22 for a medical screening and said candidates could begin printing screening slips from July 14 via an online portal.

The commission stated that it did not issue the document and attributed it to fraudsters aiming to deceive the public.

According to the PSC, no decision has yet been made on the next stage of the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

The commission added that it held a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, July 9, with representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Character Commission, and the Ministry of Police Affairs to review the process. It said an official update on the outcome and the next steps will be communicated through its verified channels.

The PSC advised applicants to disregard unofficial circulars and to get information only from its official website, recruitment portal, and verified social media pages.

It also reiterated that the recruitment is free, warning candidates not to pay anyone claiming to influence the process.

The commission further warned that individuals found distributing fake notices or engaging in recruitment fraud will face prosecution.
