A joint security team led by the Anambra State Police Command says rescue operations are still ongoing following the collapse of a three-storey building in Oko on Sunday night, July 26, 2026.
The building, identified as Elite Five Star Lodge located beside Tonimas Filling Station at Amokpala, Oko in Orumba North LGA, caved in late at night, leaving several occupants trapped under the debris.
According to the Command, security operatives moved to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call. The area was cordoned off to prevent further risk while rescue work began. Personnel from the Anambra State Fire Service and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, also joined the operation.
Authorities say a number of injured victims have already been pulled out and taken to a hospital in Oko for treatment. The total number of casualties and those still trapped has not yet been confirmed as search and recovery efforts continue.
The Police urged residents, especially those living around the area, to stay calm, avoid sharing unverified reports, and keep clear of the collapse site to allow emergency teams free access.
The Command added that further updates will be released as more confirmed information becomes available.
