The US Secret Service says it is monitoring a video broadcast by Iranian state television that appeared to threaten Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump.
According to the agency, all potential threats to its protectees are reviewed.
โThe US Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,โ spokesperson Nate Herring told CNN. โOut of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence.โ
The nearly three-minute clip aired over the weekend on IRIB, Iranโs state broadcaster, which is overseen by the countryโs supreme leader. The video opened with an English graphic asking โWhere to kill Barron Trump?!โ and included graphics of places the 18-year-old is known to frequent, including Trump Tower in New York.
Near the end, a narrator referenced a โ$10 million reward,โ saying people were โeagerly waiting to receiveโ it.
This is the first time Barron has been directly named in such broadcasts. Iranian hardline outlets have previously aired threats against President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, especially since February, following the reported assassination of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and members of his family at the start of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
A federal law enforcement source told CNN the video is part of a wider series of Iranian media content targeting the Trump family. Some previous clips allegedly included details about movements and suggestions for attacks.
The source added that protective measures for the president and his family are constantly updated based on intelligence from the Secret Service, other US agencies, local police, and foreign partners.
President Trump has spoken publicly about Iranian threats. In July he said, โIโm on whatever listโฆ so far, I guess Iโve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesnโt last very long. These are evil, sick people.โ
A person familiar with the matter said one recent threat involved a shoulder-fired missile and was serious enough that Trump avoided flying on Air Force One, instead leaving Turkey during a NATO summit on a different military aircraft as a precaution.
Tensions have remained high since the 2020 US drone strike that killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani. During funeral events for Khamenei in July, state-organized rallies featured posters reading โKill Trumpโ and calls for a bounty.
CNN said it has reached out to the White House for comment.
